Samenwerken, waarom zou je?

Afgelopen week was ik voorzitter in een bijeenkomst tussen bestuurders en directeuren van een aantal zorgorganisaties. Centrale thema: misschien moeten we in deze lastige tijden meer gaan samenwerken? Boeiende bespreking, en nut en noodzaak van mogelijke samenwerking kwamen ook echt wel op tafel. Maar het bleek ook goed om even terug te keren naar de kern…

De titel van dit weblog geeft het eigenlijk al aan: waarom zou je eigenlijk samenwerken? In veel teams of zelfs gehele organisaties wordt er vanuit gegaan dat samenwerking nuttig is. En dat samenwerking nodig is om zaken voor elkaar te krijgen. Maar is dat altijd zo? Houden we elkaar niet regelmatig gewoon van het werk? Is het niet vaak een rituele dans?

Bij vraagstukken op het gebied van samenwerking probeer ik twee belangrijke vragen voor ogen te houden. Deze vragen bevatten de essentie van samenwerking en waarom dit al dan niet toegevoegde waarde levert. Het schijnt zelfs wetenschappelijk onderbouwd te zijn (met dank aan Kees Tillema en Aad Oosterhof voor de toelichting). Zonder een positief antwoord op de volgende vragen is samenwerking gedoemd te mislukken:

1 Hebben we een gemeenschappelijk doel dat we nastreven?

2 Bestaat er wederzijdse afhankelijkheid om dit doel te kunnen bereiken?

Geen doel en geen afhankelijkheid? Waarom zit je eigenlijk bij elkaar om over samenwerking te te spreken? Zonde van de tijd…

Wel een doel en geen afhankelijkheid? Dan gaat samenwerking alleen maar vertragend werken. Ga lekker zelf aan de slag!

Geen doel en wel afhankelijkheid? Dat vraagt uitzoekwerk…blijkbaar bestaat er wel een soort gezamenlijk gevoeld probleem? Kan dat in een doel of belang vertaald worden?

Zowel een doel alsook wederzijdse afhankelijkheid? Een prima uitgangspunt om de waarde van samenwerking verder uit te werken en gezamenlijk op te trekken.

De volgende bijeenkomst van de bovengenoemde groep organisaties gaan we dus vooral aan de slag met deze twee vragen. Pas daarna kunnen een eventuele samenwerking ook écht gaan vormgeven!
